Glenrock herd sale sets new Limousin record
The Glenrock herd sale proved to be a record breaking day and one beyond the wildest hopes and expectations of the Illingworth family when the maiden heifer Glenrock Illusion sold for a new Limousin world breed record price of 125,000gns (£131,500).
In taking the world Limousin price record Illusion also surpassed previous UK and European record all-breed bovine price records.
Having offered the herd for sale as a means of financing the purchase of the family’s tenanted farm, Howgillside, which has been their home for 20 years, the record breaking sale was said Stephen Illingworth beyond all expectations.
“While we always knew Glenrock Illusion was a very special heifer, to sell her for a record price like this was way beyond our wildest expectations and was very much the icing on the cake for what was a great sale throughout.
“From the day she was born Illusion was something special and has just got better and better. This year she has had the profile in the showring which has helped to showcase her. She has so much style and presence, size and length, width along the back and is full of character and femininity. She’s a very special heifer with the pedigree behind her as well.”
Illusion is a daughter of the 23,000gns sire Goldies Comet and is out of the herd’s matriarch Glenrock Spangle, herself a Kype Interrogate daughter. Spangle has an exceptional breeding record, with her progeny having grossed £109,000 prior to the sale and her progeny in the sale grossing £257,000 to take her lifetime earnings to £366,000.
“We were very humbled by the size of the crowd at the sale and so many bidders helped the sale on for which we are very grateful. Showing has given the herd profile and I hope also that the quality and consistency of animals that we have brought forward regularly to sale and that have gone on and done well helped also. There is proven breeding in the cattle and a depth of pedigree.”
“As a farming family, the greatest pleasure you get is looking at your cattle at home. The fact that so many people think as much of your cattle is really very humbling.”
Having come to the sale with an impressive show record, which included being junior champion at the Highland this year as well as reserve junior interbreed at the same show and interbreed winner at Cumberland, Illusion sold to join the Alford family’s Foxhillfarm herd at Cullompton, Devon, with a half share subsequently sold to Danny Sawrij for the Swalesmoor herd at Kedzlie Farms, Kedzlie, Blainslie, Lauderdale, Galashiels.
